New York – Today we practiced from 9:15 to 10:45 a.m. on practice court 3 which is adjacent to the entrance of the Arthur Ashe Stadium, where Serena Williams will meet her first round opponent, Taylor Townsend, who was born in 1996 in Chicago.

Townsend, currently ranked No. 103, turned pro in 2012. She is coached by former WTA champion Zina Garrison.

After practice, we went up to the U. S. Open Fitness Center to put some finishing touches to our performance and prehab (injury prevention) program and wish Venus Williams great success on her afternoon first round match today.

After that, I went down stairs to the player’s cafeteria to have lunch with some of our other team members. My meal consisted of a mixed green salad with a balsamic vinaigrette, a turkey sandwich on a seven grain bun, and an unsweetened ice tea.

Later, I will have a protein shake before dinner.

Tomorrow will be a long day with a morning hit-around followed by what appears to be an evening match – with a rest period in between at our hotel.

Let’s hope it does not rain tomorrow night.
