Friday afternoon Serena Williams defeated Ekaterina Makarova 6-1, 6-3 in a semi-final match, which vaulted her into a Sunday afternoon championship match against her friend Caroline Wozniacki.

Wozniacki defeated Shuai Peng, when Peng was forced to retire (stop play) in the second set due to excessive muscle cramping, which she was taken off the court in a wheel chair, after she attempted to resume play with a break and treatment. We will practice Saturday from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. then go to the fitness center for additional sport specific work.

From there, it is lunch and back to the hotel to rest and recovery and get mentally ready for the championship match. You can watch it on CBS.

As I have told Serena before, “you’ve survived the climb to the top, now its time to fight.”

And I might add, there is no friendship when a championship is on the line.
