U.S. Open postcard: Rain ruins the day |

New York — Things were looking good despite the fact that rain was in the forecast in New York today. We practiced adjacent to Venus Williams from 10:30-11:45 a.m. for a doubles match. Then, while preparing for the match, the dreaded rain came pouring down. And everything halted.

The players and staff filled the players’ lounge, dining area and fitness center. I had lunch, checked my email on my iPad, visited with Serena and basically killed time.

Around 4 p.m., the word came that the remainder of the daytime matches had been cancelled. The implication is that, in addition to Serena’s match Tuesday against Suarez Navarro, she may also have to play the makeup doubles match with Venus against Pavlyuchenkova – Safarova as well.

Unfortunately, our team will not find out the schedule until late Monday night. So it will make for a potentially long day tomorrow, weather permitting, since rain is again in the forecast.
