New York — Well, it’s 8:07 p.m. New York time Friday night, and Team Serena is waiting for the Lleyton Hewitt vs. Juan Martin Del Potro match to conclude.

At present, they are still in the first of what could be a five-set match (let’s hope not). Our court warmup session was from 6:15 p.m. to 7:15 p.m., followed by ankle taping, the prematch meal and consultation with coach Patrick Mouratoglou.

As you may recall, the prematch fitness warmup starts when the match ahead of us is in the final set, where it looks like there will be a clear winner.

On Saturday, Serena and Venus play an afternoon doubles march, so having our match possibly extend into the early morning hours Saturday makes for an interesting 48 hours.

On Friday, Serena and I had an early afternoon warmup session at her hotel, just to wake up the legs and shoulders, along with rotational stretching.

Let’s hope for a good night’s sleep.
