New York – Yesterday Serena Williams had a tough match against Varvara Lepchenko, who Serena periodically hits with at practice. The 6-3, 6-3 Williams victory does not tell the whole story.

The match lasted over 1.5 hours – which was slowed by extended cross court rallies and the wind that swirled in Arthur Ashe stadium.

Today, we will practice from 10:45 – 12:15 p.m. followed by a doubles match in which we are the second match after the one that begins at noon eastern time.

After the match last night, we had a cool down in the U. S. Open fitness center followed by some stability/mobility work.

I was back in midtown Manhattan by 6:40 p.m. in time for my wife Sandy and I to have dinner with old friends. You would know them – Mark Morial, President of the National Urban League and his lovely wife Michelle Miller, a CBS Morning anchor.
