U.S. Open postcard: Being on Serena Williams' winning team

New York — We warmed up Sunday on the court at 1 p.m., and the match was set at 4:30 p.m. We had to wait for the Patriots and Bills to finish. We had the pregame meal right about 3 p.m.. It was baked chicken, brown rice, green beans, an orange and water.

Serena Williams’ match in the final vs. Victoria Azarenka lasted 2 hours and 36 minutes. It was hard fought the entire way. Serena won the first set and lost the second. But in the third set, Serena took over. At that point, it wasn’t close. But most of the way, it was grueling on both sides. The wind was a factor. They had to adjust their serves. In the end, we won.

I’ve been gone a month. We got into New York 2 1/2 weeks ago, and I have nine days off. And boy, am I going to use them. I’m looking forward to taking a break. I’m certainly honored to be part of Team Serena.
