Take control when dining out

Ever wonder why people who eat out regularly often weigh more than those who only eat out occasionally? This is what frequently happens when you don’t control what goes into the recipe. Those who eat out often usually end up consuming more fat and calories because they can’t regulate the ingredients.

But, in most cases, you really can have a hand in the selection of what you’re eating while dining out if you ask the right questions and specify what you want and don’t want in or on your food. You can ask your waiter to work up something to your satisfaction with the chef. If you are unsure whether or not the food is healthy, ask how it is prepared (i.e. fried, grilled, baked, etc.). In most cases the kitchen staff is happy to work with you; after all customer satisfaction is what keeps you and your business coming back.

Ask for salad dressing and sauces to be served on the side so that you can control how much you use. Stay away from buttery or creamy sauces and ask for a marinara sauce instead. Choose grilled foods instead of those that are fried. Maintain portion control by dividing your food and don’t eat everything if it’s too much. Ask for a doggy bag and save the rest for later.
