Serena Williams appears rejuvenated on court

This comeback is nothing like the one in early 2007, when she came back after playing only four tournaments the previous year. Williams was ranked No. 81: overweight, out of shape and rusty, she used the Australian Open as a boot camp before blowing away Sharapova 6-1, 6-2 in the final.

This time, she may be as fit as we’ve ever seen her.

Renowned fitness guru Mackie Shilstone – a tough taskmaster with whom she’s often worked – actually was on site with her in Stanford.

Never too big on practising, Williams said the only time in recent memory she didn’t practice was when she was on the plane home from Wimbledon.
