Mackie adds Zinc to his top picks for building immunity

Since I released Mackie’s top 5 picks to build a strong immune system last week, a report by by last month’s joint World Health Organization-China mission quoted by Bloomberg news stated that “The new coronavirus causes little more than a cough if it stays in the nose and throat, which it does for the majority of people unlucky enough to be infected. Danger starts when it reaches the lungs. One in seven patients develops difficulty breathing and other severe complications…”

In light of this recent report from the WHO and a 2009 study—”The Use of Zinc Supplements to reduce Upper Respiratory Infections in United States Air Force Academy Cadets”—stating that “Higher zinc dosage may be warranted to confer a protective effect under more challenging immunological conditions,” I’ve added zinc as a sixth recommended immunity-booster.

  1. Probiotic – 70% of your immune system resides in the lining of the gut.
  2. N-Acetyl-Cysteine – NAC — to boost the powerful antioxidant glutathione in the liver
  3. Olive Leaf Extract – a natural antimicrobial for acute infections
  4. Garlic Extract – one of nature’s natural antibiotics
  5. Vitamin C – to boost the activity of the body’s natural killer cells, a first line defense.
  6. Zinc – see above.
