60-Yard Shuttle Change-of-Direction Drill

Shuttles are change-of-direction drills that offer strong conditioning effects due to the constant changing of direction—in this case forward, reverse direction, and run back. The total distance run is significantly longer than the length of the shuttle—the result of the layout.

For instance, the 60-yard shuttle spans only a 15-yard straight-away, since you’re running down and back for each 5-yard block.

Depending on the work-to-rest ratio (my work is your rest or more rest with more people)—such as no rest or working with one or more partners—will determine the stress to the cardiopulmonary system.

This drill allows the family to work together in a relatively small area—emphasizing conditioning and teamwork—cheering each other on.

Remember, you should always consult your physician before beginning any exercise, diet, or nutritional supplementation program.
